Gerald was born to Irish immigrant parents, Peter and Katherine Dooley in Troy, New York.  His parents instilled in him the value of ethics, honesty, integrity, a strong work principle, and the love of God.  Gerald, known to family and friends as Gerry, attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.  He then went on to further his education at New York University where he received a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.  Soon after that he started his career at Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, New Jersey which led to a long career in the telecommunications industry, until his retirement in 2010.  Gerry lived in San Jose for the past 33 years and recently moved to Parker, Colorado in January 2017. He was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and an active member of St. Anthony Church in San Jose, California for 33 years. There he served on various ministries which included Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council, and a member of the small choir at the 4:00 mass at the little church in New Almaden. Gerry was known for making his famous Irish coffee at the parish’s annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

He is preceded in death by his brother Joseph, infant son Brian Francis, and his son Patrick. He leaves behind his wife Colleen of 55 years, daughter Erin Marie (Aaron) DiGeorge of Parker, Colorado, Kevin of San Jose, California, Brian (Sheila) of San Marcos, California, Brendan (Michelle) of San Francisco, California, sister Anne Marie (Tom) Higley of Wilmington, Delaware, and sister-in-law Mary Dooley of Loudonville, N.Y. He had 8 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. 

A Mass and Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 30 at Our Lady of the Visitation in Elizabeth, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made in Gerry’s name to the Knights of Columbus Chapter at St. Anthony Parish on 20101 McKean Road, San Jose, California 95120.
