- About Us
Joanne Christian Bowman was born on November 25, 1927 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Robert and Alline Christian. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1945 and from William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri, in 1947, majoring in music. She met and married Jim Bowman in 1950, and their three children, Judy, Jimmy and John were born in Tulsa. While living in the city, she enjoyed charity work, boating on the lake with family and friends, and playing bridge.
In 1959, the family moved to Colorado and began raising cattle and Arabian horses. Over the years, this business took them to four different properties in the state, so she enjoyed building or remodeling the family’s homes. Having an artistic flair, she remodeled and painted furniture and completed many decorative needlepoint and cross stich pieces. Also, she was a great cook, and preferred spicy food.
After the children were grown, Joanne delighted in traveling around the states with her husband, Jim, in their motor home, appreciating different places and stopping to dote on her 5 grandchildren. Also, she adored cats and her many feline companions through the years brought her much joy and comfort.
Joanne passed away on December 20, 2018, at age 91, in her home at Parker Assisted Living, with her son John by her side. She is survived by children Judy Hadley of Olympia, WA, Jim Bowman of Mantua, Ohio, and John Bowman of Kiowa, CO; grandchildren Suzanne (Hadley) Gosselin, Matthew Hadley, Sarah Hadley, Rebekah (Hadley) Simon and Jon Austin Bowman; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at New Beginning Community Church, 10550 Progress Way, Parker, CO. Final Resting Place with her husband, James R. Bowman, at Parker Cemetery.
