Katrina B. Housley

January 14, 1933 ~ March 30, 2018 (age 85)

On the evening of March 30th, 2018, with family by her side, Katrina B. Housley entered into the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ.

Born in 1933 to Haskell and Helen Groninger, she grew up in Muskogee County, OK.  She met her husband, the late Raymond M. Housley Jr.,  while in college and the two married shortly thereafter.  They loved each other dearly.  Together, they were the proud and loving parents of Matthew Alan Housley of Richmond, CA, Janet Housley Kays of Aurora, CO, and Lynn Housley Eichenberger of New York, NY.  A woman of great depth, kindness, and intellect, Katrina lived her life caring for those she loved.  She lived every day with an undiminished curiosity for all things, and could talk as fluently about world financial markets as she could about botany.  An avid cook, she showed her love through the food she made, often with ingredients she grew in her cherished garden.  Her children will always remember her tamales, sopaipillas, warm cinnamon rolls, and the cookies snuck from the Smokey-the-Bear cookie jar.  Her grandchildren relished the taste of her candy pie and the care packages unfailingly sent their college dorm rooms each and every semester.  Her eight grandchildren, Daniel Housley, Marissa Carlson, Lara McMullin, Michael Housley, Jessica Richardson, Sarah Eichenberger, Emily Eichenberger, and Sean Eichenberger, will miss her dearly.  Katrina is also survived by her beloved brother Christopher Groninger and her nieces and nephews Stephan Groninger, David Moss, Mark Housley, and Ann Marie Housley.  She also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held to celebrate Katrina’s life.  In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to: The Trust for Public Land,; The Infectious Disease Society of America,; The American Heart Association,; or The Hummingbird Society,
