Robert H. KertzDecember 20, 1944 ~ November 13, 2017 (age 72)
Robert H. “Bob” Kertz, 72, of Parker, CO, was surrounded by family as he went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 13, 2017.
Born in Port Washington, WI to Arthur and Hilda (Antoine) Kertz on December 20, 1944, Bob spent his youth on a small dairy farm in Janesville, WI and graduated from Milton Union High School in 1962. At that time, he entered the Navy, took bootcamp training in San Diego, CA, and was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. When he returned to the States, Bob lived most of his life in Rockford, IL where he raised his children. His love for sports led him to coach t-ball, soccer, and baseball for his “kiddos" teams. He took pride in landscaping and loved being surrounded by family and friends, cooking on the grill, playing cards, and enjoying life.
A graduate of Concordia University, Bob served as the Human Resources Supervisor with the Chrysler Corporation in Belvidere, IL for 37 years. After retiring, he and his beloved wife of 49 years, Darlene (Fritch) Kertz, headed to Colorado, a location which was a special place for them since they honeymooned in the mountains of Estes Park after being married in Arlington Heights, IL on August 10, 1968.
Bob’s passion to do for others kept him active at the Black Bear and Blackstone golf clubs, where he did everything from paperwork to buildings maintenance, and with the Ave Maria Catholic Parish where he faithfully attended worship. A member of the Knights of Columbus, Bob’s favorite activity with his brothers was to serve at monthly pancake breakfasts, and he and Darlene met often with their friends in the Leisure Club. He enjoyed sightseeing, the occasional round of golf, and watching the Colorado Rockies, the Denver Broncos, and the Colorado Avalanche with his family.
Bob was the proud father of Kim (Ron) Chance of Rockford, IL, Kevin (Danette) Kertz of Parker, CO, and Mike Kertz of Parker, CO and special grandpa of Rachel and Erica Chance of Rockford, IL. Brother of Monsignor Raymond Kertz of Rockford, IL, Betty Burlingame of Rockford, IL, and Jim (Nancy) Kertz of Des Moines, IA, Bob is also survived by nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 20, 2017 for a visitation at 10:00 am, with a funeral mass at 10:30 am and luncheon to follow, at Ave Maria Catholic Church which is located in Parker, CO at 9056 E Parker Rd. With Navy Military Honors, Bob will go to his final resting place at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 2:30 pm., Staging Area "B".
